*Update: Ovechkin has been suspended 3 games. Watch the explanation here.
In the second period of the Capitals 4-3 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, Alexander Ovechkin added another hit to his long, long, long list of controversial hits and incidents he's been involved in during his career.
With about 13 minutes left in the 2nd, Ovechkin left his feet and delivered a check on Penguins' defenseman Zbynek Michalek. On the hit, Ovechkin also made some contact with Michalek's head. Michalek looked a bit shaken up but ended up being okay. Ovechkin wasn't penalized on the play.
Ovechkin has already been suspended twice during his career. The hit doesn't look too bad, but, Rule 42 officially does state that....."A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner".
Well, Ovechkin did not get a minor or major for the reckless hit. Does he deserve a suspension for it?
