Step aside Vancouver, the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking like the NHL's new most hated team. After a knee-on-knee hit by Brooks Orpik on Derek Stepan, during Thursday's contest between the Rangers and Penguins, John Tortorella had some harsh post-game comments for the Penguins organization.
"That's one of the most arrogant organizations in sports," Tortorella said. "They whine about this stuff all the time. It's ridiculous. But they'll whine about something else over there, won't they? Starting with their two... stars... I wonder what would happen if we did it to their two whining stars?" - Watch the video here.
Orpik was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for the hit. No further discipline has given by the league yet. But, for Tortorella, he has been fined $20,000 for his comments.
Crosby responded to the comments earlier today:
"I don't know what he's talking about," Crosby said following the Penguins' off day practice at their suburban practice rink. "I mean, if you want you can put a camera on us all game, put a camera on [Rangers captain Ryan Callahan] all game. You'll see who's over there more [with the officials]. He should worry about his own players."
This is all coming just days after Flyers assistant coach Craig Berube told Comcast SportsNet that, "Crosby and Malkin are the dirtiest players on their hockey team".
