(Above) A tweet by Bobby Ryan following the trade
As the wild NHL off-season continues, Bobby Ryan has been traded to the Ottawa Senators in a blockbuster deal. In return, the Anaheim Ducks will be recieving Jakob Silfverberg, prospect Stefan Noesen and a first round pick.

Bobby Ryan had 30 points in 46 games last season. Ryan was selected at 2nd overall from the 2005 NHL draft by the Anaheim Ducks. For almost two seasons now, there had been trade rumors circulating the 26 year old winger.

Hopefully this move will elucidate that the Ottawa Senators were not going to sit back and watch the departure of long-time captain Daniel Alfredsson. Instead, they decided to make a big splash by signing Ryan.

"Listen, Ryan will not replace Alfredsson’s leadership or even what he meant to the community. However, you know one thing is for sure. This is a kid that will help you win hockey games. Ryan has shown you can score 30+ goals at the NHL level; he has done it four straight times..." - HockeyFanLand.com

Alfredsson meant the world to Ottawa. However, how could you not like getting right back on the horse with a kid who makes 30 goals a season look easy. Ryan has had 124 goals in the past five seasons. Alfredsson 95. It is hard to say but I think Ottawa is better off with Ryan.

Although, I am still a bit shocked the way Alfredsson went out. Could have been a lot more classy....
