It was one of the greatest redemption stories in hockey history. After being one of the most criticized players in the NHL just a year ago, Phil Kessel proved all of the doubters wrong, leading the Penguins to a Stanley Cup Championship.
Phil and the Penguins beat the San Jose Sharks in six games during the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals. In fact, Kessel finished top five in playoff points (which I actually predicted before the playoffs even began) with 22 points in 24 games. Being one of Kessel’s loyal supporters, it was a thrill to watch him win hockey’s ultimate prize.
You can watch Kessel hoisting the Stanley Cup and the live reaction of his teammates in the video above. Overall, they were ecstatic. Patric Hornqvist can be seen pumping his fists as Sidney Crosby laughs. Pure happiness on all of their faces.

Congratulations Phil, on your first Stanley Cup! You truly deserve this!
After all, he is just a nice guy, who tries hard, and loves the game.
